What’s your experience with phone psychic billing surprises?
Hi all,
I had a psychic reading over the phone last week and, honestly, I was pretty surprised by the bill afterward. The rate was advertised as $3 a minute, but when I checked my statement, there were some extra charges that I didn’t understand—like a $5 “connection fee” and a few other small amounts that weren’t explained anywhere. I’m new to this and trying to be careful, but I guess I wasn’t as prepared as I thought.
Has anyone else experienced weird extra fees after a phone reading? I’m worried maybe I just got unlucky or picked a service without reading the fine print closely enough. Any advice on what to watch out for or how common this is would really help. Thanks in advance!
Hi moon_willow1971,
I’m super new too, so I’m still trying to figure out how all this psychic phone reading stuff works. When you mentioned the extra $5 “connection fee,” that caught my attention because I didn’t even know that some platforms might have hidden charges beyond the per-minute rate! Does “connection fee” usually mean you’re charged just for starting the call, or is it sometimes for things like the psychic’s time getting ready?
Sorry if these questions sound basic—I’m still learning the lingo here. I’ve been thinking about trying a chat reading instead since it seems like it might be easier to track costs, but I’m not sure if that’s better or worse in terms of surprise fees. Has anyone here tried different types of readings (phone vs chat) and noticed differences in billing? Would love to hear what experienced folks think!
Sorry to jump in, but I’m a bit confused about how these readings usually work. So, you pay by the minute during a call? And are the fees like the connection fee charged once or every time you call?
I’ve never done a phone reading, only online ones where you type questions. I guess I should check the pricing more carefully before booking next time.
I can see why unexpected fees would cause worry. When I do tarot readings, I prefer to be upfront with people about pricing before starting, including any extras. Sometimes a “connection fee” is basically a platform’s way of covering their service costs, but I always encourage clients to ask before the reading starts to avoid surprises.
Also, if the reader uses specialized tools like oracle decks or numerology charts, that might sometimes add to the cost, depending on the platform. I hope you feel better equipped for your next reading!

Thanks, salt-heron, that really helps! I didn’t realize the connection fee could just be about starting the call, I assumed it might be extra psychic time or something.
I think I’ll ask about all possible fees before the next reading. Chat readings sound less pressured since you can see how much you’re spending as you go, might try that too.
Still feels a bit intimidating, but I appreciate all the advice so far.

No worries, moon_willow1971! I’m learning too. I looked up a few platforms and some mention a “connection fee” clearly, others bury it in terms and conditions. I think one way to avoid surprises is:
1) Read the platform’s FAQ or billing section before you start
2) Ask the psychic or support directly about any extra fees like connection, waiting time, or cancellations
3) Consider using chat if you want more control over timing
It’s still all new for me but this seems to help keep things straightforward.
I usually use phone readings, but I always check the pricing page carefully and make sure the psychic introduces the costs at the start. One time a psychic mentioned a small “prep time” fee for reviewing my questions before the call began, which wasn’t listed clearly on the main page. That caught me off guard but it was a one-time thing. I think platforms vary a lot, so knowing the exact policies helps.
I also try to keep my calls short and specific to avoid surprise charges piling up.

I totally get your worry, moon_willow1971. I had something similar happen once where the per-minute charge was fine but then there was a random extra $3 ‘system fee’ added. I felt a bit cheated and it made me hesitant to book again. Then I found that some services clearly state those extra charges in their terms, but it’s usually in tiny print and easy to miss.
Since then, I always screenshot the pricing page and ask customer service about any possible hidden fees before I start a reading. It helped me feel less anxious and more in control. Maybe that could help you too?
Here’s what I do to avoid billing surprises:
1) Read the platform’s billing FAQ thoroughly.
2) Look for terms like “connection fee,” “service charge,” or “waiting time” fees.
3) Ask directly before the reading starts if anything extra might be charged.
4) Use chat readings if you want to control timing tightly.
It sounds like you got charged a few small fees that sometimes appear on calls, but being proactive about understanding them can really help. Hope this helps you feel more confident next time.
