Is It Normal for Psychics to Ask for Personal Info Before Reading?

So I tried a reading on one of those popular psychic platforms last week, and right off the bat the reader started asking for a lot of personal details—like my full name, birthday, job, and even stuff about my past relationships. I was taken aback because I thought psychics just did their thing with cards or energy without needing all that info first.

Is this common practice or should I be skeptical? I don’t mind sharing some basics, but it felt like an interrogation before the actual reading even started. I’m new to all this so wondering if it’s a red flag or just how some readers work to connect better. Thanks.

You said the reader asked for “full name, birthday, job, and even stuff about my past relationships.” That’s a lot to share right away.

I get that some psychics like a bit of info to tune in, but it does raise a question: how much is genuinely needed to read energy vs. how much is just fishing?

I’d like to see if anyone’s compared how readings go when they share minimal details versus a full background. It might help figure out if it’s standard or just a tactic to gather data.

It’s not unusual for some readers to ask for basic info, but detailed personal questions before the reading usually aren’t necessary.

If it feels like an interrogation, skip it and try another reader.
