Help interpreting reversed Death card in recent spread

Hey everyone, I’ve been studying tarot for a few months now and did a month-ahead spread for myself yesterday. The Death card came up reversed and I’m a bit puzzled about how to interpret it. Usually, I think of Death as transformation, endings, new beginnings — but reversed, it feels like it might mean delay or avoidance rather than an actual ending. Has anyone else experienced this? How do you read the reversed Death card in a spread when it appears in a forward-looking position? Is it more about resistance to change or maybe a gradual transition? I’m trying to understand if this means something is coming but will be slow, or if it’s suggesting I’m stalling something that needs to end. Thanks for any insights!

Thanks for asking this! I’m new too and just started learning the cards like a week ago so I’m still figuring out all the meanings and stuff.

I’ve read that the Death card reversed can mean “resisting change” but I never knew if it’s always bad or if it could mean you’re not ready yet. In your case, since it’s month-ahead, I wonder if it means you should take your time and not rush a big change? Or maybe you’ll get stuck somewhere?

Also, sorry if I’m being dumb, but could it also relate to like holding on to old habits or things that you should let go of? I’m confused about reversed cards in general so any tips would be great!

yeah i see what you mean about the delay thing. sometimes reversed cards feel like they’re not about what actually happens but the energy around it, like you’re not quite ready for what’s next or it’s happening in slow-mo or something. i had death reversed once in a love reading and to me it was a kind of hold up, like feelings needed time to change and didn’t do it overnight. so maybe it’s a pause not a stop? anyway just my 2 cents

Interesting question. I’ve noticed that with reversed cards, the language psychics use a lot is about “blocks,” “delays,” or “resistance,” but sometimes it’s unclear if the platform or reader defines reversals consistently.

In my experience buying readings, if a reversed Death card shows up, I always ask for clarification from the psychic about whether it’s about things being stalled or about internal resistance. The support teams sometimes provide info on how their readers handle reversals differently.

I don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all meaning here, especially since reversed cards can reflect an inner state rather than an outcome. So, your interpretation of delay or avoidance rather than an ending fits well from a consumer viewpoint.

Worth keeping in mind if you get readings from professionals, how they describe reversed Death on their profiles or in Q&As.

Reversed Death often points to resistance, not change itself. Think of it this way:

1) Upright Death means transformation, endings, making way for new.
2) Reversed Death means we’re holding back from that, resisting or delaying.

So yes, your interpretation is on point. It might mean a delay or avoidance of the ending. But remember, resistance doesn’t stop the process altogether. It signals difficulty accepting what needs to happen or gradual change rather than sudden.

In month-ahead spreads, I see reversed Death as a warning: don’t try to force a quick end or new start because you’re not ready. Instead, focus on preparation or working on your mindset.

Also, the card’s surrounding cards matter a lot. If you have positive or growth cards nearby, maybe it means slow but inevitable transformation. Standalone, it’s more likely to mean stalling.

In short: reversed Death? Expect some hesitance or slower progress, not permanent stoppage. It’s a subtle but important difference, especially for newer readers.

oh i’ve definitely felt the reversed Death as holding on and not quite letting go. once i did a reading when i was stuck in a job i hated, and the Death reversed showed up alongside the Eight of Swords. to me, that combo was like being trapped by your own fears or denial.

for a month-ahead reading, that sounds like maybe your subconscious is warning you that some change needs time and can’t be rushed or you might be avoiding facing it.

also, sometimes reversed cards highlight inner work — like sorting out emotional blocks or fears before the actual external change can happen. i find journaling about what’s hard to let go of helps with this.

so yeah, in my two cents, your feeling about delay or avoidance fits. it doesn’t mean no change, just maybe not yet or not how you expect.

hope that helps. it’s a tricky card but one of my faves for growth.

Death reversed means delay or resistance. Simple.

If it comes up in your spread, you’re holding onto the old stuff. You’re not ready to let go yet.

In my readings, it’s a sign to acknowledge the fear of change but don’t get stuck. It’s temporary.

Take it as a prompt to look inward and identify what blocks you. Once you do, you can move forward.

Adding: some readers also interpret reversed Death as a gradual transformation instead of a sudden one. So if you’re worried about a big, scary ending, it might just be slow evolution.

Keep in mind your deck style too. Some decks emphasize different nuances for reversals.

Ultimately, it depends on your intuition and context of your spread. Don’t stress one definitive meaning.

I’d say you’re on the right track thinking about avoidance or delay. Reversed Death doesn’t usually mean the end is canceled, just postponed or slowed.

One thing I noticed in my own readings: reversed Death can reflect internal resistance — fears, denial — more than external events. Like you mentioned, it’s about stalling that transformation.

Also, look at what cards surround it in your spread to get clues. For example, if you have cards like The Hanged Man or Two of Swords nearby, it could suggest indecision or pause.

I treat reversed Death as a signal to pay attention to what you’re holding onto emotionally. Maybe some self-reflection is due before things change.

Hope this helps you feel a bit clearer about it.
